Tips in the Field

  • Never punch holes in the ears for tags
  • If possible, do not get the hide wet
  • If possible, do not drag
  • Never cut the throat
  • When gutting, do not cut into the brisket
  • Keep out of sun as much as possible
  • Do not hang by the neck

Skinning for Shoulder Mount

  • Cut about 8 inches behind the shoulder area
  • Skin towards the armpits, cut up the back of leg or skin the leg out whole
  • Make sure to leave entire armpit area
  • Skin up the neck as high as possible, then cut off head

Small Game for Life Size Mount

  • Freeze whole in a plastic bag
  • Do not skin or gut anything smaller than a coyote

Birds--NO LONGER ACCEPTING

  • Do not wring the neck
  • Do not brush the feathers backwards
  • If possible, do not let the dog handle
  • Clean blood off with wet towels
  • Do not gut bird
  • Freeze in plastic bag whole

Fish- NO LONGER ACCEPTING

  • For reproduction mount, take overall length measurement and around the belly at the fattest point. Take good pictures
  • For skin mount, lay flat, fins down against the body, tail fin flat, wrap in plastic and freeze whole.
